Hi,
I'm new here (this is my 2nd post).

I'm collecting materials for a children's and young adult section for our parish library. I've noted some titles already, but was wondering if anyone has further suggestions? The book or video should be available (not out-of-print), and something you yourself has read or a child (or young adult) you know has recommended.
Thanks!
Magdalen
A lot of the teens I talk to all the time, especially young ladies, seem to be very enthused about all of Regina Doman's books. (something besides twilight yay! -stay away from the Twilight series)
You can see more info about it here.

The site looks a little scary to me, but knowing the people who read the books, and from their explanations I wouldn't let it bother you. If you read the content on the site you can also find the words: Catholic, home school (k two words), and faith.
I haven't actually read any, but they are suppose to be real good and Catholic. They are fictional fairy tale books, not sure if you want any of those.
Unfortunately Aquinas and More only sells one of her books, which you can find here.

And there is also a movie coming out off of Shadow of the Bear, so it might get popular with the teens pretty quick if it isn't already.
Oh, and of course I always suggest all things C.S. Lewis.
Thank you for your response, and James also!
I started reading Catholic, Reluctantly, but it did not hold my interest; then again, I'm not a teen.
I was just thinking of Bethlehem Press earlier today! We had homeschooled (last one in college now) and recalled it from back in the day... Emmaus Publishing has a lot of historical fiction, too!
Any one author whose writing is outstanding? I know of Louis de Wohl, but have never read any of his books.
God bless,
MW

I would also recommend anything from Bethlehem Press. They have stuff for a wide range of ages - mostly historical fiction.
The All Things Girl series by Teresa Tomeo would be good for your tween collection. They also have an All Things Guy book that came out this year. I don't know if they plan on writing more for young men.
The Vision Books series of saint biographies from Ignatius Press is a must-have. Also, Pauline Books & Media has a book fair that they do for Catholic schools (we're trying to get our school to do it), so they have a selection of Catholic children's books, though I haven't read them.
I've read three of the Regina Doman fairy tale novels to my kids, and would highly recommend them, though they really are aimed at teens, so there are some themes which may not be appropriate for younger children. They are exciting retellings of some classic fairy tales set in modern times. They are completely Catholic, they emphasize virtue and heroism, and are very fun to read.
Another resource is to look at Catholic homeschool websites. They often have recommended booklists, including Catholic books as well as other literature emphasizing classic themes of good vs. evil, the virtues, and historical events.
Sounds like you're doing great things!
I can't wait to get more books for our small children's collection! Thanks for all the suggestions.
I asked a teen girl to read
Catholic Reluctantly, and she said she liked it. I only got a few chapters into it; didn't really hold my attention, but then, these books are not written for my age group either.
I got a very nice book from America Needs Fatima. A friend had a man who is in this apostolate come and give the, um, "show" (though that's not really the right word). After the prayer meeting and teaching on Fatima, some books were for sale, and I bought Jacinta's Story. It is beautifully illustrated. I think a 9 yr old could probably read most of it, though it could certainly be read TO children by an adult or older child. 60 pp 8.5" x 11.25"
ISBN 1-877905-32-1
Happy reading and library stocking!

I just checked out Pauline Books and noticed a book by Joan Chittister (Fine Art of Living), so I'm going to steer clear of those and stick with sellers I know will stock orthodox materials.

I believe that every person should have to do proper parenting. As my point of view if we try to mold children to our incredible scriptures and it's awesome knowledge then it will gonna make best future as a united nation.
